We offer three options for you to gain a career in the countryside and conservation industry depending on your GCSE results. Our Level 3 course offers you the choice of university study or employment on successful completion of your course. Our Level 2 and Level 1 courses are ideal if you would like more time to develop your skills before progressing on to further study.
This sector is all about sustaining, protecting and using the natural environment. So if you love the countryside, are passionate about its protection and conservation, and the livelihoods that rely on its existence, then this is the career for you.
This course is an ideal introduction to countryside and conservation studies, where you will learn the basic skills required to progress to further education in countryside and conservation, arboriculture or horticulture.

GCSE English and maths at grade 2, or equivalent qualifications at Entry Level
You will learn how to work safely in the natural environment, with a range of equipment essential to a wide variety of sites and situations.
To become confident in the day-to-day tasks associated with working in estates, parks, gardens and woodland, as well as developing wider skills such as working with others, problem solving and personal planning.
Further studies such as our Countryside & Wildlife Conservation Certificate Level 2 or other courses in the area of countryside and conservation.

Before starting her teaching career at Bicton College 12 years ago, Katie worked for the Devon Wildlife Trust and Thames Chase Community Forest. Katie also has a BSc in Zoology and a MSc in Sustainable Environmental Management and specialises in habitat management.
