This course is ideal for those aged 19 and over who wish to return to education and want to progress onto a degree course or equivalent.
There are no specific entry requirements, but you will need to have a good standard of literacy and you will also need to have enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to further your education in the arts. If you are under 24 and do not have English GCSE , you will be expected to study for that alongside your course.
If you wish to apply you will need to bring along a portfolio, of work, to an informal interview. This could contain any of the following: drawing, painting, craft work, photography, sculpture etc. Applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment to identify any support needs during the first week of starting the course.
This course will enable you to gain a broad experience of different subjects in art and design. These will include a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, graphic design, 3D work, animation etc.. It will also provide the opportunity to identify the area of specialisation most relevant to your aspirations and ability.
There will also be a structured programme of study skills, as well as an introduction to art history; all of which are to prepare you for the demands progressing onto a higher level of study.
The Access course is a 1 year, full time course, especially intended for those people who have always wanted to study art and design, but have not previously had the opportunity to do so.
The wide range of art and design specific units and the workshops that will teach you new skills, or develop existing skills.
This course will prepare you for study at HNC or HND, Foundation Degree or Honours Degree level in any creative subject of your choice.
Students have gone on to study degrees in a wide range of subject including:
- Graphic design
- Fine art
- Fashion design
- Prop making
