A-level Psychology

The focus of psychology is the study of mind and behaviour; helping you to answer all those questions about people that you were afraid to ask. You will examine research which has been carried out by psychologists and others into human behaviour, the factors which make us human, and events that transform the human experience. You will investigate mental health causes and identify risk factors to well-being. This is an exciting journey into widening understanding of yourself and those around you. Completion of this course will provide personal and academic achievements for an enlightened future.

Ideal if:
You have a strong interest in people and want a more thorough understanding of other people's behaviour.
You’ll need:
At least five GCSEs at grade C or grade 5, or above, including English and mathematics and at least a grade B or grade 6 or 7, in a relevant subject.

It also equips you well for all sorts of areas in the workplace such as advertising, personnel work, management apprenticeships, social services, probation service, the police and youth work. Psychology is a common theoretical feature of many courses involving people based professions, so you would always be a step ahead, particularly with counselling courses.

Sharon is a Cornwall College alumni; she studied A-levels at the College prior to progressing onto Bath Spa University where she read Psychology. She is a qualified hypnotherapist and a top performing examiner. In 2014, Sharon's students performed above the national average for A-C grades with 20% of them achieving A grades.
