This course is for people wishing to go into the electrical installation industry and are able to attend classes part time over two years. It will provide the essential underpinning knowledge necessary for the National Occupational Standards.

This course is designed for people who wish to train in Electrical Installation and mainly focuses on Installation of Electrical Equipment in Commercial, Domestic and Industrial premises.
The qualification covers areas including environmental technology systems, preparing and installing electrical systems and equipment, terminating and connecting conductors, cables and flexible cords and inspecting, testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis and correction.
This course is approximately half classroom work and half workshop/laboratory work and is made up of four units:
- Working effectively and safely in an electrotechnical environment
- Principles of electrotechnology
- Application of health and safety and electrical principles
Learners must complete the relevant knowledge units before the performance units and finish with the Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Unit which is assessed by the AM2 test.
The aims of the course are to provide knowledge and awareness of the techniques, craft skills, technology and related science required for electrical installation work. The course will also provide an understanding of the regulations and health and safety requirements governing electrical installation processes and knowledge of the organisation and structure of the industry within which these activities are carried out.
This will give students a valuable, intermediate qualification which may enhance their employment possibilities, potentially making them more desirable to prospective employees.
