Covering excavators, telehandlers, dumpers and compaction, the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Plant Operations (Construction) enables you to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding; and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment. You will work towards an End Point Assessment to achieve a range of core knowledge, skills and behaviours as shown in the standard. Standards Apprenticeship - Engineering Operations

Level 2 • Work-based • Cornwall College Camborne


This Level 2 apprenticeship is ideal if you want to start your journey to becoming a qualified engineer. The apprenticeship route provides an ideal foundation for a wide range of skills within the engineering field. You will learn a range of practical skills, be able to follow technical drawings and work carefully and methodically. The course is 75% practical workshop based with 25% classroom theory work. You will have to complete a range of practical assessments to a high standard alongside reports that detail what you have done and whether you met the required standard. All training is provided by ex-industry experts with many years within their field to guide you through your learning and assessment within the course. Welding Skills - ARC/MIG (Evening)

This course is perfect if you are a complete beginner or have limited welding knowledge. Ideal if you want to learn a new skill, if you are creative, if you want to repair your own car or even a garden gate. On this course you will learn a basic understanding of the different Welding processes used in industry and at home. Gaining a basic understanding of Manual Metal ARC welding (stick) and Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MIG), covering Flat and H/V single weld beads, re-joining of runs, welding outside corner joints, Butt welds and horizontal/vertical fillet welds on 3-6mm thick plate. The MIG/Mags welding section will cover the setting-up of the machine (gas, volts and wire speed etc) for correct operation to deposit welds in the horizontal/vertical and Flat welding positions, material thickness 1-6mm. " You will require fire resistant overalls and steel toe capped boots/shoes for this course. Also due to Health and Safety guidelines we would recommend that you wear glasses instead of contact lenses if you require them. Within the 4-year apprenticeship you will start from a general engineering platform at the foundation phase (years 1 & 2), where you will learn a grounding in Engineering, with a mix of units. You will have to complete a range of practical assessments to a high standard alongside reports that detail what you have done and whether you met the required standard. Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard

This occupation is found in the advanced manufacturing engineering and engineering construction sectors. The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using things such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc. Work includes manufacturing bridges, oil rigs, ships, petro-chemical installations, cranes, platforms, aircraft, automotive and machinery parts, sheet metal enclosures, equipment supports, and anything that can be fabricated out of metal. Fabricators can work alone or in teams, in factories or on operational sites. Fabricators use a large range of metals including steel, aluminium and titanium at a range of thickness's from 0.5mm up to over 20mm. The size and weight of the fabrications can range from components that can easily be picked up by hand, to massive structures that require several cranes to manipulate. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with planners, supervisors, inspectors, designers, welders, pipe fitters, fitters, machinists, riggers, steel erectors, stores personnel, painters and many others involved in manufacturing, production, maintenance and repair. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for the quality and accuracy of their own work whilst ensuring it conforms to a relevant specification such as an engineering drawing or an international standard. Fabricators are also responsible for the health, safety and environmental (HS&E) protection of themselves and others around them.

Standards Apprenticeship - Machinist

This Level 3 apprenticeship is ideal if you want to start your journey to becoming a qualified engineer. The apprenticeship route provides an ideal foundation for a wide range of skills within the engineering field. Within the 4-year apprenticeship you will start from a general engineering platform at the foundation phase (years 1 & 2), where you will learn a grounding in Engineering, with a mix of units. You will learn a range of practical skills, be able to follow technical drawings and work carefully and methodically. The course is 75% practical workshop based with 25% classroom theory work. You will have to complete a range of practical assessments to a high standard alongside reports that detail what you have done and whether you met the required standard. You will then progress onto the development phase (Years 3 & 4) where you will hone your skills specific to your pathway and your job. Learning all the skills and knowledge required in greater depth and understanding that years 1 & 2. This phase is 50% theory and 50% practical. Completing units on a pass/merit/distinction basis. All training is provided by ex-industry experts with many years within their field to guide you through your learning and assessment within the course. Alongside this College based qualificatqualification, you will complete an NVQ style competence qualification. A Cornwall College assessor will walk you through the process of completing report write ups of jobs you do at work. Once you have completed the four qualifications (2 at Foundation and 2 at Development phases) you will progress to an End Point Assessment, where you will be assessed on your skills and knowledge in an interview.
