Nursing CAVA Access To HE Diploma

The Access to Nursing programme is designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to a range of health and social care related Higher Education degree programmes. Validated by CAVA, this is a recognised qualification for progression by universities. The course is challenging and you will in effect be studying the equivalent of 3 A levels in 9 months as opposed to 2 years. Therefore full attendance and absolute commitment is required to allow you to fully maximise your learning opportunities. If you are a proactive individual who is determined to realise their potential as a professional in the health care sector, then this pathway is for you. The course runs from September until the end of June/early July, 2 days per week. The course may also run 2 evenings and 1 day per week (subject to course numbers). This is a challenging course and it is expected that students will complete a minimum of 15 hours of independent study each week. Students may access college facilities on the days that they are not taught with some evening study available. Please also be advised that most universities require work experience to complement your UCAS application-therefore it is highly recommended that you are working within the health care sector in either a voluntary or paid capacity. Assistant Practitioners In Healthcare Diploma (Higher Apprenticeship)

The qualification is for individuals already working in a healthcare environment like nursing homes, clinical health care settings, hospital staff working in clinical areas, residential health care settings (that have a clinical aspect to the job role) or domiciliary settings (that have a clinical aspect to the job role). Assistant Practitioners work as part of the range of healthcare and social care teams and have direct contact with patients, service users or clients providing high quality and compassionate care. The role requires workers to have a more in-depth understanding about factors that influence health and ill-health (e.g., anatomy and physiology). The assistant practitioner may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers or activities delegated by registered healthcare practitioners. This course is aimed at all assistant practitioners or those individuals that wish to become assistant practitioners. Students may also be in other roles and recruited as apprentices on to this programme. The course focuses on consolidation of learning and on embedding consistently good practice in core areas, as well as the development of additional knowledge and skills. You will learn about a variety of areas directly relevant to the role, including assessing patients, understanding health principles and effective team working. You will generally learn within your work setting. You will be assessed through written assignments, and your competency in your work practice. Having completed this course, workers may then progress into undergraduate healthcare profession programmes such as nurse training.

Dental Nursing Diploma

From a general check-up to root canal work, as a dental nurse you will be required to have a reassuring and caring nature as it will be your job to look after the patients. You will also need great communication and organisational skills as you will be responsible for looking after the equipment and maintaining high levels of cleanliness. Successful completion of the course will enable you to become a qualified dental nurse and register with the General Dental Council. New apprenticeship standards are being introduced to focus skills training more on specific career roles within industry.
