A range of species and their methods of communication will be explored before going on to learn about how animals communicate with us.

From our pet companions to their wild counterparts, you will discover a wide variety of behaviours that are used to form animal ‘language’.

This course will run from 9:00-16:00.

Pleaee note: this course is for applicants aged 19+ only.

  What You Will Learn

This course will cover:

· Introduction to sending and receiving signals.
· Sensory communication; including visual, auditory, chemical and touch.
· Benefits and costs of communication.
· Honest and deceitful signals.
· Animal and human communication.

Our veterinary nursing teaching areas are designed to simulate a veterinary practice. We have a radiography room, laboratory, kennel area and operating theatre. We have many pieces of equipment that you would expect to find in a veterinary practice such as microscopes, anesthetic machines, operating tables and a large variety of surgical instruments. We also have a range of mannequins, from life-size Labradors to no so life-size ponies and with working farms and equestrian centres you will also have access to animals seen in large animal practices. As a veterinary nurse you will provide support to sick and injured animals who are receiving treatment in a veterinary practice and provide expert nursing care. You will help to educate owners on maintaining the health of their pets and carry out a range of medical treatments under veterinary supervision. Knowing that you have helped nurse animals back to full health is one of the most rewarding careers.

This course is designed to provide knowledge about setting up your own small business, particularly if you are planning to set up a dog walking or pet sitting business. There are many aspects that you will need to be aware of if you are considering setting up your own business, many are integral to the success of the business, others may cause you a headache down the line if you have missed them. This course will cover the basics of setting up and running your own small business for success. Please note: This course is for adults 19+ only The course will run from 09:00am – 16:00pm.

BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Health Level 6

Level 6 • Part-time • Duchy College Stoke Climsland

This programme provides progression for graduates of the FdSc in Veterinary Nursing or Animal Health and Management, or equivalent programmes. It is a contemporary and relevant Level 6 qualification, run over one year for full time students or two years for part time students, based mainly at our Stoke Climsland campus. The programme incorporates a range of core and optional modules which ensure relevance for students who intend to work in any part of the animal health or veterinary industry. In addition, some option strands will be primarily aimed at Veterinary Nursing graduates, enabling them to develop specialist areas of interest and facilitate progression within practice. You will explore current issues in the industry and are encouraged to investigate areas of your interest. An Honours Project is completed as part of the year. The modules are closely linked to industry and students will be encouraged to support their learning with appropriate work experience. Graduates of this programme will be at the forefront of an ever changing world, where animal welfare is increasingly seen as paramount, and will be able to make a real and meaningful impact in this area.
