A range of species and their methods of communication will be explored before going on to learn about how animals communicate with us.

From our pet companions to their wild counterparts, you will discover a wide variety of behaviours that are used to form animal ‘language’.

This course will run from 9:00-16:00.

Pleaee note: this course is for applicants aged 19+ only.

  What You Will Learn

This course will cover:

· Introduction to sending and receiving signals.
· Sensory communication; including visual, auditory, chemical and touch.
· Benefits and costs of communication.
· Honest and deceitful signals.
· Animal and human communication.

FdSc Veterinary Nursing

Level 5 • Full-time • Duchy College Stoke Climsland


This popular programme provides an ideal graduate-level route into veterinary nursing and successful completion allows registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN). The programme is run over three years and is strongly linked to the workplace: you undertake a veterinary nursing placement in practice for two to three days per week in the first and second years and full-time in the third year. Work-related learning is fully integrated, with 1800 hours of completed veterinary nursing work experience and assessments for the programme relating directly to the veterinary nursing industry. The modules offered provide a broad education in veterinary nursing of small animals – covering all of the requirements necessary to register as an RVN – as well as in additional areas such as animal behaviour, care and rehabilitation and animal nutrition. You will explore current issues in the industry and are encouraged to investigate areas of your interest. A research project is completed in the third year. The programme is delivered by a team of specialists including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, animal scientists and zoologists, all of whom have practical industry experience.

Work-based Animal Care Award

The City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Work-based Animal Care is a programme of work-based training and assessment, leading to a nationally-recognised qualification. It aims to meet the needs of learners who work, or want to work, in the animal care sector. It allow learners to learn, develop, and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the animal care sector. Please note: It may be possible for you to recieve funding for this course - please contact us for further details. This course is for adults aged 19+.
