This programme provides progression for graduates of the FdSc in Veterinary Nursing or Animal Health and Management, or equivalent programmes. It is a contemporary and relevant Level 6 qualification, run over one year for full time students or two years for part time students, based mainly at our Stoke Climsland campus.

The programme incorporates a range of core and optional modules which ensure relevance for students who intend to work in any part of the animal health or veterinary industry. In addition, some option strands will be primarily aimed at Veterinary Nursing graduates, enabling them to develop specialist areas of interest and facilitate progression within practice.
You will explore current issues in the industry and are encouraged to investigate areas of your interest.

An Honours Project is completed as part of the year. The modules are closely linked to industry and students will be encouraged to support their learning with appropriate work experience. Graduates of this programme will be at the forefront of an ever changing world, where animal welfare is increasingly seen as paramount, and will be able to make a real and meaningful impact in this area.

Resource Management and Leadership (core)

Clinical Animal Behaviour (optional)
Applied Veterinary Pharmacology (optional)

Emergency and Critical Care Nursing (optional) - (practicing veterinary nurses only)

  Entry Requirements

240 credits with 120 at level 5 from a relevant Foundation Degree, HND, or equivalent in an appropriate subject. All qualifications and subject grades will be considered on an individual basis. HND qualifications may require additional bridging module

  Assessment

Throughout the programme we encourage you to develop your individual abilities and test factual knowledge through a variety of assessment methods including posters, leaflets, micro teaches, demonstrations and some written work which and you will be able to develop existing knowledge through a mixture of taught and practical sessions which are integral to the programme.

  Progression

Masters-level study in Animal Science or Teaching. You could also go into employment within the industry.

This focuses on caring for animals in the owner’s property, not home boarding.

Animal Management Diploma

Our Level 3 Animal Management Diploma at Duchy College is an exciting stepping stone on your way to a rewarding career working with animals. This course can be studied as a one year Advanced Diploma in Animal Management Diploma or as a two year Extended Advanced Diploma in Animal Management, and we will work with you to decide which option will be the best choice for you. Our state of the art animal management centres at Duchy College Rosewarne and Duchy College Stoke Climsland provide dedicated access to a huge range of animal species such as small mammals, exotics, birds, aquatics, and farm animals. Learners will also have the opportunity to visit and access real industry environments including Dartmoor Zoological Park. Caring for animals can be an extremely fulfilling and rewarding career; from working in kennels and catteries to wildlife rescue, there are a wide range of careers available upon successful completion of the course. Completing this course will allow you to start your career in the animal care industry or prepare you for University. If you find an area of study you love whilst completing the course you can choose to go on to further study at University and qualify as an animal nutritionist, behaviourist or conservationist. We offer a Zoo Animal Management pathway at Level 3, which is perfect if you would like a career caring for animals in a zoo-based setting. We work in partnership with Dartmoor Zoological Park to ensure you gain the practical, real-life experience that employers look for.
