This one year top-up programme is designed for those who have completed an FdSc or HND or equivalent across a range of subjects and would like to progress to a full honours degree.

This programme will enable you to develop your existing knowledge to encompass the planning and management skills required to run a successful enterprise. It is based on an analytical approach to problem-solving and communication.

The programme is highly flexible allowing you to study, in detail, a chosen topic through an honours project and a selection of modules which are available in response to student demand.

In some of your modules there will be opportunities for you to work closely with industry, businesses and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize winning Rural Business School.

This progression to honours year allows you to either specialise or be more generic in your studies. Either way the support from a group of highly experienced staff will help your development and advance your business skills.

  Entry Requirements

240 credits with 120 at level 5 from a relevant Foundation Degree, HND, or equivalent in an appropriate subject. All qualifications and subject grades will be considered on an individual basis. HND qualifications may require additional bridging modules.

  Assessment

The programme is assessed in a variety of modes such as presentations, consultancy reports and practical case studies.

Award in Basic Stockmanship and Welfare

If you want to work in the livestock industry, then this qualification will help you to gain knowledge of this area. This course will prepare you to demonstrate competence in handling, health and assessing stock. You will learn the basic requirements for managing stock, why considering their welfare is important and the Welfare Code requirements for a given class of livestock relating to housing and health. You will also learn about the procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency, the checks which should be made on livestock and the measures that can be taken to prevent disease entering a holding/farm. Please note: Funding for this course may be available depending on eligibility.
