This short course will give you the technical knowledge and skills to become a professional dog walker.

You will learn a range of related topics, including; the roles and responsibilities of a dog walker, dog breeds and their characteristics, health and safety when walking dogs, and how to conduct behaviour/health checks for a dog.

You will develop your vocational understanding of this industry while understanding the broad scope of a dog walker.

  What You Will Learn

You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker, including about the laws and codes of conduct that govern your role. You will be able to identify and describe a variety of dog breeds, including their characteristics and behavioural traits. You will be able to plan and execute a walk safely, using the tools properly and conducting a thorough risk assessment.

  Assessment

You will undertake a series of assessments to produce a portfolio of work, ending with a 1-1 oral assessment.

  Progression

You will have all the skills and knowledge you need to start your own business as a dog walker, or enter into employment with an existing dog walking company. You will also be able to progress towards full qualifications in animal care and management, such as a Level 2 Certificate or Level 3 Diploma.

An introduction to dog training

This course is designed to provide knowledge about suitable training techniques for dog owners or those who simply wish to learn about training dogs. Understanding how dogs think, learn and act is integral to good training. This course will provide you with a grounding in basic training, exploring how dogs communicate to enable better trained dogs. Furthering your training knowledge will ensure that dogs are better trained and therefore happier and ultimately improving human-dog relationships. Often issues are founded in miscommunication, this course will aid you in recognising where such issues may arise and how you might prevent them. Please note: this course is a theoretical course covering dog behaviour and will not require you to bring your dogs along on the day This course will run from 09:00-16:00 Please note: this course is for applicants aged 19+ only

Veterinary Nursing Diploma

Level 3 • Work-based • Duchy College Rosewarne


Our veterinary nursing teaching areas are designed to simulate a veterinary practice. We have a radiography room, laboratory, kennel area and operating theatre. We have many pieces of equipment that you would expect to find in a veterinary practice such as microscopes, anesthetic machines, operating tables and a large variety of surgical instruments. We also have a range of mannequins, from life-size Labradors to no so life-size ponies and with working farms and equestrian centres you will also have access to animals seen in large animal practices. As a veterinary nurse you will provide support to sick and injured animals who are receiving treatment in a veterinary practice and provide expert nursing care. You will help to educate owners on maintaining the health of their pets and carry out a range of medical treatments under veterinary supervision. Knowing that you have helped nurse animals back to full health is one of the most rewarding careers.
