If you’ve ever thought of working in the outdoor industry either in the UK or abroad, then this is the course for you and an ideal way of developing the key skills and qualities needed to enter and succeed in the exciting world of outdoor adventure education.
The first (and best) thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about practical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time outside the classroom, pushing yourself to take on new challenges whilst developing skills and experience in a wide range of outdoor activities, alongside developing your leadership and coaching skills as well as that all important understanding of how businesses in the sector operate.
You’ll be looking at everything associated with being employed in the outdoor industry: from managing risks and keeping groups and yourself safe in the outdoors planning and delivering exciting and engaging outdoor activities, looking at how the body works and what the fitness requirements are to overcome challenges and complete expeditions through to developing your own coaching and leadership style that will help you get the most out of the people you work with.
As well as our on-site facilities which include a gym and sports hall, you’ll also benefit from being situated in one of the best placed college campuses for outdoor activities anywhere in the UK. Our highly experienced instructors will have you out and about for a whole day of practical activity one day a week all year. We will provide access to equipment and training that means rather than sitting in a classroom every day you could be out paddling on lakes and rivers, climbing on indoor and outdoor routes, ripping up trails on a mountain bike, navigating over Dartmoor or Bodmin and even catching the odd wave. In addition there will be loads of opportunities to push yourself during our expeditions and study tours which may see you climbing world famous routes in Fontainebleau France, or summiting mountains in North Wales.
As a Level 3 course, this programme is all about immersing you in the outdoor industry and developing both the essential and advanced skills you’ll need to excel in this exciting industry. You’ll be learning from experienced outdoor and sports coaches and instructors, who are there to give you the very best start to your career.
