This agriculture programme widens your knowledge of the agricultural industry, with a view to managing agricultural operations after graduation. The programme provides a thorough understanding of modern farming production systems and an in-depth knowledge of the underlying scientific and technological principles.
You can focus on chosen subject areas, including the science and technology underpinning livestock and crop production and management. Additionally you will gain a comprehensive understanding of modern farming systems and the wider issues facing the agricultural industry, including the key areas of sustainable food production and the impact of climate change.
The FdSc Agriculture is delivered using a combination of approaches to enable the acquisition of required academic knowledge. Practical farm management is also integral and the programme benefits from industry-wide support.
The programme is assessed by a combination of coursework assignments, seminars, presentations, case studies, practicals, tests and examinations. Work-related learning is embedded throughout.
Facilities at our Duchy College Stoke Climsland campus:
- 600 acres of arable, dairy, beef and sheep farms
- 280 dairy cows
- New demonstration parlour in planning for 2016
- 120 ewes
- Small herd of North Devon cows
- Demonstration herd of British Lop pigs
- Arable crops: wheat, maize, barley
- Large selection of machinery. Including a range of new John Deere tractors
- AHDB crop trials
You will also have the opportunity for a Cornwall county farm mock viewing, with experience in preparing and submitting a business plan, receiving real industry feedback.

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required. Access to HE Diplomas - 45 credits at level 3. Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply.
