Forest School Leadership Certificate Level 3

Duchy College Stoke Climsland LEVEL: 3 Children, Schools & Families

This course enables you to gain the skills and knowledge required to plan and lead groups in Forest School programmes and activities.

You will attend 8 days at college (every other Tuesday for a term) and have full tutor support for the remainder of the year whilst running your own Forest School sessions and completing your portfolio.

Ideal if:

You're a teacher, teaching assistant, early years educator, youth worker, play worker or other professional in training as a Forest School leader.

You’ll need:

  • To be aged 21 years or over
  • Have a Level 3 or above qualification.
  • Level 2 with a portfolio of at least two years' experience of working with children/young people in a leadership capacity
  • Have considerable experience of working with young people
  • Hold a current DBS Certificate

You’ll learn:

The course consists of taught theory and practical elements as well as coursework to be completed during and after initial training. You will complete 5 units linked to learning outcomes:

  • Delivery of Forest School - this includes planning, leading and evaluating a pilot programme of a minimum of 6 sessions with your client group
  • Forest School Practical Skills
  • Forest School and the Woodland Environment
  • Learning and Development at Forest School
  • Planning Forest School


To submit completed portfolios of work 10 months from the date of enrolment.

You’ll love:

Seek employment within the children's workforce as a Forest School leader or become a self-employed provider of Forest School.
