Well as a food technologist you will be able to answer these questions and much, much more. Using scientific knowledge and a highly tuned palate, food technologists develop and improve recipes and formulae for new food and drinks. You never know, you could invent a brand new flavour!
Our Level 3 course will give you all the basic knowledge you need to pursue a career in the food production industry, with
progression to university study available on successful completion of the course.

Our Stoke Climsland campus is home to our £4.7 million Food Innovation Centre; with its registered manufacturing and processing facilities, food analysis and microbiology laboratory you will benefit from learning in a state-of-the-art facility unmatched in the South West.

You dream of working in a laboratory and experimenting with new ideas. This course is ideal as food technology combines many aspects including a range of sciences, practical food production and design and technology, ensuring that you are constantly challenged and inspired.
Four GCSEs at grade 4 including English and maths.
During the course you will learn about the production of foods, from raw materials to product manufacture, across the range of food groups including dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables, beverages, fish and cereals. As well as learning about safe food production, you will learn how to develop new products and assure their quality using systems such as HACCP. You will also study how to produce foods safely, food labelling and packaging, the science behind food manufacturing and product development, and management techniques.
To gain an ideal grounding for a career in this sector through a combination of practical sessions, assignments and projects.
The chance to visit and work with local food producers where you will see what you have learnt being put into practice commercially.
University study such as our FdSc Food Studies or employment in the industry.
