This short course is designed for people who want to work on small projects for their own boats such as rudders, oars, hatches spars or for people wishing to learn about small boat maintenance. You will achieve a basic understanding of health and safety, the use of small hand tools, understanding of woodworking joints used in boatbuilding and their application, different boatbuilding materials and their uses.
Materials need to be pre-ordered and paid for in advance. Please speak to the trainer prior to enrolling to organise.

Jonny Mills Boatbuilding Course Manager
Jonny has been working in the marine sector for over 30 years, repairing and sailing aboard wooden square rigged vessels, which is his lifelong passion. Jonny’s expertise and experience extends to building and maintaining historic replicas for museums, fibreglass production yacht building, repairs and restoration of wooden boats.
Jonny has been in charge of a team of shipwrights, building replica boats for film and TV productions, as well as the marine coordination for the Warner Bros. film ‘Clash of the Titans’. Jonny was also the head shipwright on the construction of ‘The Hereford Bull’, a replica trow built for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
