JEFF BEER

Managing Director of a small property company

Jeff has been a Duchy College Council member since 2009 and chairs the Appeals Group for Future Farm.

A qualified Agronomist, Jeff ran a successful Agricultural Merchants business in South Devon for 30 years and is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society, Liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Farmers and former Chair of the Education Committee. Up until 2012, he had a farming interest in South Africa, primarily game farming and conservation. Jeff currently farms 100 acres (arable and sheep) in Devon, and has enabled a project on the farm where disadvantaged children produce honey on the farm.

Recently retired magistrate specialising in youth crimes and now working with young people who have and are experiencing difficulties.

Former chairman of the Devon and Cornwall Magistrates Courts Committee. Awarded an OBE in 2005 for Services to the Administration of Justice.

Jeff was appointed to the Board in July 2015 and is a member of the Delivery and Development Committee, Audit Committee and the Rural Economy Cluster Advisory Board.

Married with four grown up children, his interests revolve around his farm, his family and a love of cricket.  He is greatly involved in presentation to schools, societies and associations talking about the work of Magistracy.
