An introduction to Wildlife Conservation

No Qualification • Part-time • Duchy College Stoke Climsland


This intensive one-day course will introduce you to wildlife and ecology by exploring the beautiful woodland within the Duchy College, Stoke Climsland grounds. In the morning you will discover and identify the local wildlife by carrying out a survey, lunchtime will take place (weather permitting) around a campfire , giving us the opportunity to discuss the mornings discoveries. In the afternoon you will be taught safe wood craft skills to assist with woodland management to support habitats. Delivered by experienced and friendly tutors, you will be inspired to further develop your knowledge and skills within wild conservation, whether learning for leisure or wishing to consider a career in the industry. This course will run from 09:00-16:00pm Please note: this course is for applicants aged 19+ only.

Horticulture & Landscape Operative Intermediate Apprenticeship

Level 2 • Work-based • Duchy College Rosewarne


This course is the perfect starting point for someone who wants to pursue a career in horticulture. With over 300,000 people employed in horticulture in the UK, the industry covers a wide range of general and more specialist careers. Amenity horticulture – The design, construction, management and maintenance of the plants and facilities within a range of gardens (private, historical, botanic, public parks and green spaces). Production horticulture – Growing ornamental plants, flower and tree production (including retail nursery outlets) and food production. Sports turf – its construction and ongoing maintenance. This course is very much orientated towards providing learners with the building blocks of plant-based practical skills and knowledge, giving you the perfect starting point to your career. This course is perfect for you if you are starting your career in horticulture or you have completed a one year full-time horticulture course already or A Levels at college. Alternatively you could already be in employment with a suitable employer and want to increase your knowledge and skills, as well as attaining a recognisable level of educational achievement. Your employer will also undertake regular appraisals in order to ensure that you are maintaining good progress through the apprenticeship. Throughout the course you will be required to keep a learning journal, which is a diary of your work-based experiences and activities. There will also be the creation of a plant portfolio. To complete the course, there will be an assessment day (End Point Assessment) where you will be required to carry out a range of practical tasks, complete a multiple choice question paper and have a professional discussion with the assessor confirming your knowledge and understanding of the industry and your job role. The employer must be able to provide the range of on-the-job training required, and this will be assessed at the application stage.

Horticulture & Landscape Supervisor Apprenticeship

If you are passionate about plants and fascinated by flowers then a career in horticulture is the right choice for you and an apprenticeship is a great way to earn money while learning new skills at the same time. There are a wide range of careers available in this sector including employment in garden retailing, plant nurseries, edibles production, landscaping, parks and gardens, and turf care. Our apprenticeships are designed to help you focus your skills and decide which career path is best for you. Horticulture has a huge part to play in our day-to-day lives, from the fruit and vegetables that we eat to the turf we play sports on, all the way through to the flowers that we plant in our gardens and use to brighten up our homes. All of these areas offer a wide range of careers, no matter which branch of horticulture inspires you. FdA International Golf Management

Level 5 • Full-time • Duchy College Stoke Climsland


If you are looking to develop your golf and your career in the golf sector, then this is the programme for you. The industry is now truly international and opportunities exist throughout the world for individuals who are passionate about golf and who are work ready. You will develop your business and management skills alongside your golf, with fantastic facilities in the UK and Spain/Portugal with golf coaching that will really get the best out of you. The FdA International Golf Management is a two year programme of study with winter training taking place in Portugal/Spain during the second semester of each year. The taught programme runs from September until the end of March finishing in time for the start of the golf season (with a three day residential in the summer term). You can expect to work at weekends, some evenings and have independent study during the playing season. The first semester is in the UK at Lindfield Golf Club and the East Sussex National Golf Club. The second semester takes place in Portugal/Spain at Castro Marim (Portugal) and Islantilla Golf Resort (Spain). Additional programme costs: There are additional programme costs of £9250.00 to cover the costs of all accommodation, golf tuition, range and gym facilities.
