A Taunton florist has been nominated for a national award. Denise Cross, director of County Flowers in East Reach, has been nominated for an award from the British Florist Association.
The award is for Floristry Tutor of the Year and is awarded as part of the British Florist Association’s Industry Awards. Denise has been nominated for her outstanding work as a tutor and lecturer at Bicton College in Budleigh Salterton.
Denise was nominated by a current student for her passion and enthusiasm for the floristry world as a whole – teaching, running a commercial business and competing nationally.
Denise has been featured in the British Florist Associations publications alongside renowned master florists, which is a huge success for her and reflects her great career at Bicton College teaching floristry.
Denise explained: “I was hugely surprised to get such a lovely nomination, and was in shock when the BFA contacted me to say I had been shortlisted for the Floristry Tutor of the year award – the standard of nominees is very high!”
She continued: “I’m very excited to be nominated and hope that it will inspire the students that I teach at Bicton College to aim high as they start their careers in the world of floristry!”
During her time at Bicton College, Denise has shared her expertise in floral art and design, and has coached students to achieve great things, including current student Sophy Hadley, who recently won a highly regarded international competition to design wedding flowers, which positioned her among the top designers worldwide.
“I would never have had the skills or confidence to take on the wedding in the first place and therefore enter the bridal hand-tied bouquet into the competition without the help and guidance of Denise at Bicton.” Sophy commented.
Bicton College are delighted for Denise and look forward to hearing the results of the competition in September!
