College students from Cornwall and Devon have inspired primary school students to pursue their interests in sport.

Sport and Adventure Sport students from Duchy College Stoke Climsland have held an Outdoor Adventure experience day for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students from Trekenner Community Primary School.

The college students have been developing their leadership skills as part of their studies within the BTEC level 3 and NCFE level 2 courses.

Level 2 Adventure Sport student, Sabrina Excell from Holsworthy, said it was a great day “and I learnt lots from it”.

“It was great to see that the children had such a good time,” she added.

Head Teacher at Trekenner School, David Reardon, said the day “was well planned with three adventurous activities which worked well with first times and more experienced pupils”.

“It sets our students up with more confidence for this year’s residential and all of them felt they achieved more than they expected,” he explained.

Adventure Sport lecturer, Rebecca Ball, said the students from Trekenner School were very willing to participate and showed a great deal of helpfulness and teamwork throughout the day.

“Our students did a fantastic job of instructing which will be important for their future applications for University or jobs,” she continued.

Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans said that the “vital link we share with our local primary schools provides our students with some great real life experience”.

“It also enables the school children to benefit from the excellent sport and outdoor adventure facilities here at Duchy College.”
