A new one-of-its-kind digger simulator in the South West has received a Royal seal of approval at the Devon County Show.

After taking the controls of the digger, Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex was applauded and cheered by show visitors and Bicton College and Duchy College staff, who showcased the impressive Tenstar digital simulator as part of their stand.

The simulator allows the operator to feel like they are in the cab of a swing shovel and challenges them to complete tasks in a set amount of time.

Construction Plant Lead at Bicton College, Glen Miller, said “it was a joy to watch Her Royal Highness enjoying the new technology we were showcasing”.

“It was great fun and I hope we have inspired people from all walks of life to consider a career operating the real versions of these fantastic machines,” he added.

Principal of Bicton College, Dr Phil Le Grice, said the Colleges had “a fantastic time at Devon County Show”.

“It was an honour for all of our staff and students to be part of Devon’s premier agricultural event, and special thanks go to the Countess of Wessex for joining in and having a go at the Tenstar simulator,” he continued.

“It was a great opportunity to share the latest information about careers in countryside and land-based subjects, alongside catching up with friends, supporters, business contacts and past students.”

The Bicton and Duchy College stand received a gold award from the show organisers, who praised the interactive elements of the offering.
