A student football team in Cornwall is celebrating a great season despite losing out in a close fought final.
Duchy PAFC narrowly missed out on becoming Champions of the George Lang Cup, losing 4 -2 to HM Naval Base in the game which was played at Weston Mill in Plymouth.
The team, made up of students on the Duchy College Plymouth Argyle (PAFC) Football Education Programme, had beaten Devonport High School in the semi-final.
Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans, said the team “worked really hard and the game was much closer than the 4-2 score line suggests”.
The team have also reached the Jack Finch Division One Cup final where they will be playing against University of St Mark and St John on the 8th May.
“The students have worked so hard during training this year and the coaches from PAFC have used their expertise to get the most out of the team. This effort throughout has certainly paid off.”
Team Captain, Jordan Mason, said he has “loved every bit of this year and the coaches have worked on us so hard”.
“The team has improved so much, to reach two finals in this season is a fantastic achievement,” he continued.
“We are feeling really upbeat going into our second final this month.”
