A local football club is celebrating an incredible start to the season.
Duchy College PAFC have won seven out of their first eight matches of the season in the Larry Spear Devon Wednesday League, leaving them currently top of the league along with reaching the quarter finals of the George Lang cup.
The team is made up of students on the PAFC Football Education Programme at Duchy College which prepares students for a role in the sports industry by giving them all the relevant skills and expertise, this opens up opportunities to either coach or play at a higher level.
Team Captain, Jordan Mason, said it is “great being in such good form on the pitch at the moment and by training with the PAFC coaches we are developing our skills on a daily basis.”
“We are working hard to make sure this great start to the season continues.”
Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans, said the team have “made a great start to the season and the buzz around the team is fantastic on the pitch.”
“The success has definitely helped motivate the students with their studies as well. Our head coach has done a tremendous job so far during training sessions and has really allowed the students to express themselves on the pitch.”
Head Coach, Bobby Hopkinson, said he is “really pleased with the success so far and the lads have really worked hard on and off the pitch.”
“I can only ask them to give 100% commitment to progressing and they are doing this on a weekly basis. We’ve got some talented players in the squad and they all want to play to their best ability.”
